The Urban Agriculture Initiative in Joburg exists to stimulate job creation, provide entrepreneurial opportunity and reduce the strain on food security and food resilience by providing inner-city inhabitants with business opportunities in the farming sector. In doing so, the UAI has committed to providing, connecting and expanding an urban food ecosystem to unlock opportunities and advance local economies.
Urban farming has the potential to hyper-localise community food systems, allowing households to access nutritious and fresh food grown by someone in their own community. This helps to support community business while also cutting out all the costly and harmful transporting of food from far away. Good for you and good for the community!
