Expanded Economic Participation

Urbanisation brings with it opportunities for economic growth and job creation, which is of critical importance in addressing South Africa’s severe unemployment crisis.

Through the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP), the South African Cities Network explores the value proposition of public employment programmes and reflects on the performance of participating metros in achieving their EPWP targets and showcases interventions and best practice in achieving the EPWP’s goals.

The EPWP creates work opportunities in four sectors:

gov-funded-infrastructure

Government-funded infrastructure projects

working

Non-profit organisations and community work programmes

public-environment

Public environment and culture programmes

public--social

Public social programmes
