Ekurhuleni World Town Planning Festival

Ekurhuleni World Town Planning Festival

The Festival was in commemoration of World Planning Month during November 2020. It was a virtual festival with a series of vibrant planning related topics. The festival was hosted by the City Planning Department of the City and there were local and international presenters of over 7 discussions as guided by the Head of Department City Planning, Ms. Palesa Tsita. The virtual Festival was a first for the Department and The City as was the celebration of World Planning Month. The Festival Planning brought together colleagues to work closely and collaborate on this innovation, bring out their creativity and just have fun, with new and old friends in planning.

“I feel super proud of the virtual festival and even prouder of the City Planning Department and most proud of the HODs Team on this one. The Planning Festival was awesome because the City Planning Department put the City “out there” within the fraternity of the Built Environment. The Festival challenged the Ekurhuleni planners to think at a level where it could contribute to the planning debate outside of its own Department, it brought in the City Manager, the MMC and the Oversight which harnessed alignment and engagement. The project attracted external networks to get to know Ekurhuleni Municipality. It made us reflect on our strengths, weaknesses and potential, and better approaches to harnessing vision of the built environment of the City of Ekurhuleni.”

Thank you to Palesa Tsita and Nobuzwe Soldati for submitting this Good Hood Story.
