The City of Ekurhuleni’s Environmental Resource and Waste Management Department has implemented an environmental education and awareness programme through the Bontle ke Botho Provincial Campaign.
This campaign was aimed at promoting greening of community neighbourhoods and maintaining a clean environment that makes local community members proud of their communities. This project is also aimed at achieving and maintaining the Provincial standards that have been developed to measure the level of cleanliness in communities for all municipalities in Gauteng set by the Gauteng Department of Agriculture and Rural Development.
This project will also contribute towards greener communities and carbon sequestration through the planting of trees across the region. The City of Ekurhuleni has used this project as part of its Environmental Education and Awareness activities around climate change and the importance of keeping communities clean. The involvement of local communities remains an important factor in this.
