Slovo Park informal settlement, between Crosby and Coronationville, Johannesburg
The Slovo Community Youth Desk is a youth- and child development project established by youth from the Slovo Park informal settlement in October 2020. Through its work, it aims to benefit the broader Slovo community by tackling quality-of-life issues such as food insecurity, youth unemployment and crime and shifting the mindsets and outlooks of community members away from a dependency culture.
Achievements
- Establishment of a community garden and digital skills hub
- Repair of communal toilets and taps
- Provision of educational programmes on the importance of taking ownership of and protecting infrastructure.
