Waste Management Reference Group

The Waste Management Reference Group is convened by the South African Cities Network (SACN). Members are the managers responsible for waste management from the SACN member cities, as well as waste management specialists from SALGA. The national Department of Environmental Affairs, civil society organisations/researchers and private sector represented are invited to meetings, depending on the topic.

AIMS
  • Encourage sharing of good practice (models) in the beneficiation of waste for economic purposes and general waste management issues.
  • Provide an oversight and guidance to the envisaged knowledge generation (research) on waste management in the different cities;
  • Improve state of reporting within municipalities as well as to encourage long-term planning through the development of management plans and tools
