Spatial Planning & Land Use Reference Group

The Spatial Planning and Land Use Reference Group was originally established as a forum where cities could discuss and coordinate a response to the new national planning legislation process. This particular aspect of the Reference Group’s work came to an end with the finalisation of the Spatial Planning and Land Use Management Act (No. 16 of 2013) and its associated regulations in June 2015. Since then, the Reference Group's focus has shifted to the implementation of the Act. The core concern is the practicalities for planning our Cities, the procedures required to ensure land-use change and the means to control that development.

AIMS
  • Provide a regular forum for cities to discuss experiences and seek solutions in implementing SPLUMA.
  • Provide a space for networking between cities, other government entities and other role-players to discuss planning related issues.
  • Serve as a meeting to identify challenges and successes in the implementation of SPLUMA that require research, lobbying and interactions with other stakeholders.
